Spot on sir :) a car that ugly they never sold any when new, often a talking point on threads like this. You know your cars! :)

Here's what it's like now, in much better hands.

another man who knows his cars- although judging this thread, you all do! :)

It was a TA40 celica (1600 pushrod twin carb) and has now been converted to an RA40 (2 litre twin cam) by the new owners.

Ha ha absolutely :) must have seemed a good idea to the person who owned it in the 1980's. I'll admit it was actually quite handy though on hot days!

The rally team I sold it to put many hours into it, it is now full group 2 historic rally spec- and as you can see, it has many friends to hang out with too.

Yes, 'Halfords' type sunroofs were very popular as I recall in the '80s!

I had a love/hate affair with the Celica. I ran a 1600 GT in the early eighties and loved it as much as the Capris but the later models were yuk.

It wasn't until the late '90s that I bought a GT4 and all was good again.

The '80s were the greatest (though deadliest) of the Rally years.

Ha ha yep- these items ended up going for being desired additions to being appendages on classics!

interesting thoughts on the celicas- most folk thought the same after the mk1. I had a fwd GT from the 90s which I had for years and ended up sprinting it before it’s death. What year was your gt4?

ha ha so you’re a group b nut, I can understand that ?

I had an '88 and '92 I think. Different models of course.

The first I broke quite quickly but the second lasted a long time and clocked up many motorway miles. Not what I bought it for!

Group B. Ahhh, proper motorsport. My favourite car is an Integrale but I'll never own one. (Never meet OR OWN your heroes!)

Paint job's OK eh, considering it hasn't been cleaned and polished for years? Like I say comes with a soft top as well, along with roughly half a Spitfire in parts as spares.

I seem to have acquired two huge lumps somehow, but at least we won't go short on't brew as we sit round talking about paintjobs, traffic when we were lads, gravel and lakes and whatnot :)
