Sovereign Rings

I wore a half sovereign ring back in the 80s. And a rope chain.

I know nothing about cars but my wife got through nearly a dozen Ford Capris.

I've just asked her and she says from what she can remember she had lots of 1.6 mk2s, a 2.0l mk2, a 2.8l injection and her favourite a 3.0l mk2 gxl (V6) rebored twice. I have no idea what any of that means but it may make some people have a tingly tail.

its not a new thing. vikings wore silver instead of cash for the purpose of trade i believe.

they had bands or rings weighing 24g called ring money and used as cash.

Yeah! I had a white 3 litre S and my best mate had a black 3 litre Ghia. Petrol was in gallons back then kids and a pint of beer was 50p. :)

I still have a 1974 1.6 auto ford cortina 2 door, although it’s now a petrol 2.6 V6 manual with power steering. And it’s  off road cause the power steering needs refitting.

rally drive in an Evo and an Impreza

Mitsubishi Evolution and Subaru Impreza the rally cars of choice in the late 90s, especially in Cardiff, SpaIn and Africa. Done a few laps with them too, though the Impreza was my fav.

I always wanted a 240z gt but they were rare/too expensive.

Gorgeous range though and a fantastic era for cars!

We seem to have strayed off topic ...sorry @PansPurse ?

Making me cry now @Roy

Just found a picture of my old Datsun 260z, I had triple webbers on this baby.

This is 1984 and yes behind is a video shop, remember them!

Used to love these. Had one in metallic blue and gold rims. Beast to drive in them days. Probably in 2003. Also had a 120y Datsun rally ready, in black.

She sure was Billy, but that was the '80s and I was young and single.

I actually held on to this car until 2008 when I finally pulled her out of the lockup and let her go.

She's in Wales now....and in good hands!

Anyone know what to do with a late 70s Triumph Spitfire which would love some restoration (technically just needs a new battery to get in back on the road, but does need a new gearbox really)?

Cars are not my thing (mechanically) but she is a beauty waiting to roar back into life (one mechanic told me he was thinking of making an offer and putting a V8 engine in to make it an absolute beast).

Any thoughts most welcome, cheers!

She is (was). She also used to rally drive in an Evo and an Impreza. She said you will know what they are. *shrugs shoulders*

Come on man.... you're joking

Imprezza and evo and world famous !

Once the little en stops spilling fruit shoots and crunching pom bears into my seats ive promised myself an Evo FQ.

Had 2 imprezzas, a fully forged and tuned RA import. And a 2006 2.5 wrx with all the bells and whistles , at the time i could not insure an imprezza STi, bit spent 6k on tuning a WRX

I bet if i could have all the money back for tuning and fueling them i could by 20oz of gold :(

Sounds like a plan!

I wouldn't expect to sell it through ebay but it'll certainly get some interest from the Spitfire enthusiasts, this one is a potential beauty (all original and can come with mechanical spares for a lot - I have at least half another Spitfire in pieces in the barn - no gearbox though). It just needs some really loving TLC from an expert, and while I'd hate to let it go this is a beautiful car that deserves to be appreciated and restored properly (and I'm not the man for the job alas).

I would have been the man for the job 20 years ago, I had a mark IV spitfire, put in a new engine/gearbox and diff.

Too many aches and pains these days to lay under cars.
