Sovereign Rings

So, I've been pondering sovereign rings.

First up, I'm not sure I entirely 'get' them. I mean perhaps it's the feeling of conspicuous displays of wealth that bothers me, or maybe just that I'm not sure how good the coins look? Maybe my hands are too small to pull off a full sovereign and I'd be better with a half sovereign ring?

On the other hand, there's a bit of me wonders what, say, a 1/4oz Queen's Beasts coin might look like mounted on a nice chunky ring?

It's an outdated working class tradition isn't it that had pretty much had its day by the mid-1980s, though a few dragged it on until the 1990s, no?

(Proud of my working class background here but imho - just no!)

Ok, I will own up to having had a half sov ring, well I am from Essex. I also had a Ford Capri!

It was about 1980.

They have definitely had their day.

Working class and proud too @kimchi

Ford Capri, now your talking...3 litre purple paintwork, passed everything on the road except a petrol station.

Yeah! I had a white 3 litre S and my best mate had a black 3 litre Ghia. Petrol was in gallons back then kids and a pint of beer was 50p. :)

The sovereign ring was part of the Chav era. Big hoop earrings, shell suits... Love from Gary and Wayne

Best to steer clear.

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.

You have to bear in mind that once a upon a time a Sov wasn't quite as expensive.  The idea was to buy some gold jewellery in good times to sell or pawn when work wasn't so available.  Basically stackers who wore their horde B)

oh, and a half sov looks pretty small on manly labourers hands.  Thats for the ladies, noticed hairdresser wearing one the other day.  (sorry Junkbond)

I also had a 3L Capri followed by a White 2LS - I was hoping Ford would bring them back.

Never had a Sovereign Ring but my missus often says she will stick my Sovereign's somewhere the sun don't shine!!

Now you've made me cry...:(

I miss my old Ford.

(triple webers....sub 10 mpg but sounded lovely!)

As for Sovereign rings, someone once said on here 'the ring is his wallet, the sov his credit card!)

She sure was Billy, but that was the '80s and I was young and single.

I actually held on to this car until 2008 when I finally pulled her out of the lockup and let her go.

She's in Wales now....and in good hands!

Perhaps if I sold all my sovereigns I could afford a replica?
