Varies a fair amount depending on quality and year. In general you're looking at significant premium, so less variation with shifting spot prices. The coin yearbook I picked up suggests that's an ok ball park:IMG_20180202_140755564.thumb.jpg.d1bf0dbcd8df9771da8cf300d93186a2.jpg

230 for a shield back... That book is wrong. I have never paid that price. Infact at that price, Id buy 20

£280 seems a great price in my opinion.

The shieldback's I have been selling over the last 4 months for a friend of mine have all been going for £300+ on ebay.

I just had 3 finish last night, £330 for an 1870, £380 for a 1859 and £418 for a 1849.

Previously have had good results for other years as well.

If that's the one you just paid £280 for, I think it was a good buy. I think the grade is better than VF for sure, perhaps aEF.

Maybe if you have a chance, another, better photo would be nice for the gathered to oooh and ahhh over?

Yes I will try and get better pictures soon as possible and yes that's what I just paid 280 for it would get it graded but unsure on how much charges are etc and it is worth doing

Please don't take my word on grades, I'm an absolute beginner at it, but enthusiastic! I wouldn't grade it, others maybe would, who knows?

It's a common year and doesn't look good enough for EF, would probably make AU55

BYB, you're very lucky to achieve those prices! Wow!

Or perhaps we are all selling ourselves short on here? Even £280 sounds expensive to me.

Am I becoming old and jaded like sovereignsteve? :D :P

I should thank my stars I was buying them a few years ago

That's a belter, you're finding some quality coins there. Iphones take good images if you use a little bit of zoom, not too much, just enough to allow a bit better focus on the coin.

I feel bad about the paltry offer I made you on the '59! :o

You were right to turn me down, and so courteously :D

Cheers bud

Well it wasn't my decision to make sadly. We have been victims of our own success selling these like this.

Plus, my friend says she really loves watching the auction end as well!
