Interesting lump of silver

Just spotted this one on Ebay, an interesting lump of silver with a lot of history behind it.

Steep premium though :(

"In the original envelope it was written (translation): "Bar of silver or "Plata corriente" stamped to use and circulate. It has 3 Philippus II stamps as a tax. This kind of bars were used between 1500 (Carolus I) and 1568 (Philippus II), when the mints started in America. At this moment it was ordered to melt all of them, so that today are very rare.". "It has 2 double X counterstamps (XX) and another counterstamp -SAR...A  DE...A-. Total weight 85,20 gr (~25 Reales). Reverse plain."

Don't know why but I have always preferred the look of a beat up old poured bar over a shiny new minted one.

This bar is in Spain, in a small place on the coast just north of Barcelona. It certainly is an historic piece, not sure what it is worth. i guess it is worth what someone is prepared to pay but i do find they ask more for their silver in Spain. Looking at some of his other prices for silver they seem rather inflated.

It is very rare indeed :o it has 3  Philippus II stamps

Marcus Julius Philippus Severus, also known as Philippus IIPhilip II and Philip the Younger (238–249) was the son and heir of the Roman Emperor Philip the Arab by his wife Roman Empress Marcia Otacilia Severa. According to numismatic evidence, he had a sister called Julia Severa or Severina, whom the extant literary sources do not mention, and a brother, Quintus Philippus Severus.

Or it could be a fake? I personally wouldn’t touch it unless I was an expert or could get it verified as legitimate before I paid or unless they had a returns policy.

It sounds very cool though!
