sovereign 2016 proof

It's a proof sovereign. As long as it hasn't seen any hard surface or been scratched, it should be a PR70 or at worse a 69.

If it's been handled and has any finger marks, they can usually be removed with no detriment.

What do you think that mark that you have highlighted is?

I really don't know what the blemish could be... maybe it's a mechanical damage - how could I find out?

By sight really, unless you fancy gently rubbing it with something very soft (not advised!).

If it looks like a smear or smudge then it's not too bad, possibly can be removed. If it's mechanical it should be obvious. If it's the latter, it's so prominent, the coin is really not worth much more than bullion.
However, there looks to be signs of wear on the reverse high points in the last picture, and possibly slight scratches above the top hoof.
