Selling a series

Quick question, when you decide in the future to sell your coin series, e.g Lunar series, Queens Beasts once its complete, or any other, would you be selling as a complete set or individual coins, and what do you think would be most profitable?

I think certain individual components can fetch substantial premiums, probably enough to outweigh any premium for a complete set (probably worth most to a collector with an incomplete set)

That said, I still have my complete Star Wars Tazo folder in my rainy day stash, which should cover my pension needs...

Its probably a mix.  QB lion already attract a considerable premium thats unlikely to go down (relative to others).  It must be easier to sell individual coins to collectors missing one or piecing the set from bargains, than trying to buy the set in one hit.  I know I've looked the Lunar 2 series and sets come up from time to time, I'm tempted then the total price puts it off.

In a series there can be 1 or 2 coins that are much scarcer or never come up for sale that adds a considerable premium to them.
When you factor that into the set price then collectors can often be put off buying "the spares" as they are only after the missing coins.

I always thought the demand for a complete set would be much higher than it is.
Timing is luck as there are buyers out there and I have bought several sets myself, but are there people buying when you are selling live ?

I have also found sellers convinced that their set is worth much more than the sum of the individual coins, which over time I have realised is a false hope, especially when there are several dealers, mainly in Germany, from whom you can fill in missing years.

As others have said it can be hit and miss so check out the buy prices of individual coins ( German comparison sites is a good start ) as smart buyers will always do this anyhow.
Allow for buyers having to perhaps source from multiple sellers so their costs of shipping add up in your favour.
Decide how badly you want to sell and if you price reasonably with minimum premium over the sum of all parts try offering the full set first.

Depends on multiple things, rarity, desirability, metal type, potential buyers reasons/circumstances & where in the world you are trying to sell, but to keep it simple try to sell your set at your price 1st you may have exactly what a collector desires & bang it is gone. If that doesn't happen sell coins individually.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.
