Royal Mint return policy?

HODLER

Recommended Posts

Hello and greetings from Spain.

First time for me writing here. Very nice and interesting discussions here.

I just sold most of my crypto holdings to buy around ten kilos of gold bars and coins - mostly coins though. Was nice to convert thin air to hard assets finally.

I received the shipment from royal mint just before Christmas. Some of the gold queens beast coins and Britannia coins were very scratched. And I mean not just some tiny scratch but rather looks like some coins were driven over by a truck at the production plant. Does Royal Mint accept me returning the defected coins to receive replacement coins in mint condition? Their service line is offline and will open after the new year. I always stress if I have to send valuable items in mail. Do they sort out the insured return shipping or will I have to resort to shipping with my own risk? Would want to avoid that. Their shipping rates were very economical using DHL Express while at the same time being insured. Do you know can they sort out a return shipment with DHL with similar terms?

Many thanks in advance

If I were you I would wait until they open after the holidays and speak directly with them, I have always found them very helpful...ten kilos of gold with cryptocurrency, well done!

9/10 thats really really bad. For the money they should be (almost) perfect.

Wait....you are clever enough and lucky enough to make a large profit from crypto currencies, convert that into £300,000 of gold, from the Royal Mint no less, and then join and ask questions about faulty coins/returns on the Silver Forum? Are you bored?

Ask your mate MoralHazard about it, he's from Finland too. Or did I mean Spain

Everyone has different degree of acceptances , so it is also hard to define what is almost perfect

if every coin is perfect then we don’t need much  grading

Ah, see, you spent it all on 10kg's of gold. Rookie mistake. I would always keep back a few quid to cover the DHL myself

  • 3 weeks later...

Right so I was able to return four defected coins to Royal Mint. It took them around one week to process the replacement. So today I received replacement coins. STILL two of them were AGAIN defected. What are they doing there?!? Are they just randomly picking new units which they throw in a box and hope for the best?

I attached image of one of the worse of the replaced coins. Has anybody here returned something there TWICE? Do they accept returning the replacements? It is stupid - if they would use a minute of their time to focus all of this could be avoided. It is waste of my time and waste of their time and money. It is a bit embarrassing to contact them again but it is just unacceptable that they send garbage out.

Sigh...

I am afraid this is what to expect from the British Royal Mint these days for bullion coins.
Really pathetic by comparison to other mints especially when they are more than able to produce stunning near perfect coins.

Bullion is probably mass produced in the mint like other metal working factories producing washers, screw and springs - fast and cheap with the only quality control weight and quantity.
Bullion coins are really only worth their weight in metal and no more but nicer than scrap.
I wonder how the managers of the Royal Mint in Wales would react if they took delivery of their brand new cars only to find the doors and bonnet scratched and dented ?
"After all it's only a mass produced car so what do you expect ". . .  - so says Ford or Vauxhall - wouldn't be acceptable at all !!

Are you Alex in disguise?

You've bought 10kg of gold from your crypto gains... that's over £300,000.  Why are you moaning about such inconsequential nicks when you've clearly bought for gold content and not condition?

I would moan over a 5 pounds coin mate. It`s not about how much you spend,it`s about principles.Everyone has different degrees of acceptances.Someone might just stack PM`s or just collect coins or both in the same time.

Why you stigmatise people for their principles?

We would still be living in grass huts if everyone would think the same.
