eBay prices vs current Silver price

Makes your eyes water looking back - trust me as I hide the figures from my other half.

Basically a bullion coin like a Kookaburra or Britannia would require you to part with £34 or a bit more including 7% VAT ( all my bulk purchases were in Germany ) at that time before the VAT increase and the introduction of differential VAT we have today.

That translates to an Atkinsons / Chards / BullionbyPost UK price of around £39 plus shipping.

What sort of price were 1oz bullion coins selling for on eBay when silver prices were at their £30+ highs?

Here is my 'eye watering' records from the time.  Hankies always welcomed as donations:( PM me for address to send

Damn, those prices are so recognisable lol, I think I got into stacking a few months later than the high that year. I can't remember when the big downward crash began.

Holy moly!

Things are all relative, I have a chunk of change held within silver, and its currently at a loss.

But it is only relative when i come to cash it in which i dont intend to do for 20 years plus.

Today's paper price, although bothers me slightly and nursing a big loss other things i have bought since 2011 have got my average costs down.

Parking my cash into something you cant easily spend works well for me, as i was fond of a gamble in my younger years & frivolous spending.

If the cash isn't there, i cant make that casino visit after a night out in town.

Precious metals have helped me very well the past 10 years plus and helped me turn from a a spender into a saver.  I have saved far more in the past ten years than i have in the past

@Paul your spreadsheet does look familiar only mine runs into more lines with higher quantities but the average price per ounce is what we paid at the time and we thought we were getting a bargain as silver was heading to the moon. A lot of people paid MUCH more !!

Jeez i count myself lucky I hitched a lift on silver when 13 per oz. Stackers, investors should consolidate worldwide into a lobbying body we seem to be one of the main purchasers of the stuff. No market manipulation without representation ?!.

In the US, the prices on ebay dipped a little as soon as the prices fell below $17, but after that it stayed steady even when the price dipped below $15.75. I stopped  buying new generic silver on ebay. I look for deas on some of the older stuff that I want like the old libertads, but that's it.

I noticed a lot of .500 and .925 silver coinage kept its price after the spot dive, but I think that's partly because of max bids being placed during the higher spot.

Or some ebayers might not check the charts as closely as we do and just use Sold Listings as their guide, so it'll lag to catch up.

@Paul I thought I should feel bad for buying a year's worth of silver at £13 an ounce when it dropped to £12.. but your spreadsheet makes me feel so much better :P

Even my GSbe buys at an average of £15.60 each for two dozen ounce rounds looks like a tame deal compared to your premiums.

It does depend on what kind of thing, and why, you are after. Yes many 'bullion' types still good for around £25. However I managed to pickup, on Ebay 2 mickey mouse and 2 owls for which worked out at £16 each, with P&P. Keep your eyes open and you can get some good deals.
