You're the one chuckin in premium bog roll :D

My mystery alternative prize was going to be a signed Louis Tamlyn Anniversary Brit wanted poster from yourself (only one in the world, the poor young fellow cowers in the woods these days and can barely hold a pen, let alone design an anniversary Brit)...if you don't join in with the draw I will have no choice but to inflict that upon someone :o

Confused?

So you donate something to the pot. Then you get the chance to join a draw and you may be lucky and win something, bearing in mind it could be the same item you donated.

Then you have to post it to the lucky winner? Affluent people exchanging gifts with other affluent people.

BAH HUMBUG! :D

Let's supercharge it and make it charitable. An idea...

You make a PM donation to 'the pot'. Every oz donated receives one ticket. Every £10 you donate buys another ticket.

It's drawn. Winner takes all. All donations go to the Samaritans or the Salvation Army. Christmas is a rotten time for some folk.

I'd like to see at least a 50oz haul. As I always say, it's a win-win :)

Note: I've just thought of a problem with this :(

You'd have to tell (potentially) 50 people your address

How about we open it up to all members.

Prizes donated get you one ticket per prize (depending on value).

All other members can donate £10 to the pool for a charitable donation.

We make a Christmas donation at the end. It does mean that you aren't necessarily guaranteed a prize if people pay to enter.

Suggested rules:

Maximum 3 entries per person but donations to charity are limitless

Maximum of one prize per person

Entries can be taken up until the last prize draw.

I am happy to organise the charitable donations if people want.

Good man for taking it on BYB.

The PM donation is important, we are a PM forum and it creates a super prize for the winner.

I'd suggest that the PM donation is an entry and the money donation is supplementary.

For example: I donate a 100g BYB bar. That's 3 ozs so 3 tickets. Then I donate £20. I now have 5 chances to win the big prize.

I'm hoping for 50oz. Any other ideas chaps?

I see your point BYB. The PM donations should be limitless and the cash limited to £20?

@BackyardBullion and @Roy it is what it is, surely?

If you want to do a charitable drive then that's great, but it's a bit late now on this particular idea, no?

I'm a full time carer for a disabled parent so I come here for something else, I save the taxpayers very many thousands in the care I provide my parent, because I am a caring person and I know no-one can look after him like I can. So it feels 'a bit' of a slap in the face (I know, not intended) to try to enjoy a bit of fun and some excitement that takes me away from that, and now I am told it must be charitable.

If you feel so strongly about charity then I would both tell you that it starts at home (imvho) and also bring up the old phrase 'a dog is for life, not just for Christmas'.

I personally think having multiple prizes for people is the best solution. Perhaps a happy medium is to split the prize pool into three groups. That way we get a decent prize pool to compete for.

We end up with three winners drawn on let's say Friday 22nd December and then people post items out after Christmas.

@kimchi I understand your personal situation - would this be a happy enough medium for you?

I personally think this is a good medium. Good prize draw for entrants, good incentive for people to enter with cash rather than a prize and hopefully a few hundred quid for charity. You could even include that the winners get to choose the charity they would like the funds donated to.

That way kimchi if you won you could support a carers charity perhaps?
