Today I Received.....

Message added by ChrisSilver

The Today I received section is for private individuals to share items they have purchased for their collection / as part of their investment.

The Today I received section is not to be used for businesses to promote their business. Trade members and those operating as a business in the eyes of the forum are invited to enquire about a Dealer Sub Forum, where you may start your own Today _____ received topic to post your commercial purchases. E.g. The Today Chards Received..... topic.

A period 2 California Gold half dollar. In the California Gold Rush there was a shortage of coins and local jewellers minted their own coins. These are very rare to find now as they are tiny and few remain.

Traced the pattern it's BG924. What is interesting is to compare the coin to the best condition one on PCGS coinfacts and you can see that one looks like scratches all in fact die marks and match up identically to the one on the PCGS site

  • Finally - the first two of my three Indian Head $5 gold coins, 1908 & 1909 -which i picked up today in the US. Happy with them both - love the details and the incuse design. Just as well - given that they are pretty expensive compared to sovereigns of similar vintage!, but i am pretty sure they will retain their numi value.

There is a huge market for these coins and the premium on buying seems to be there when selling. Will you grade them?

Funny you should ask Numi...as i know i have teased you about that before, but i was going to ask your opinion on that!! I have never sent a coin for grading, but it did cross my mind for these. They were £288 and £250 delivered, and i kinda resent spending another £30 to get them graded, even though i know it (maybe) enhances the value.

Looking at your videos i am already a bit worried that one may have been cleaned (the 1909), but i am not planning to sell anyways!

Sent 5 of the Perth Longest Monarch coins in for grading and I think NGC did a good job.

They used a slightly different type of slab as these coins are much thicker than usual.

Also got a ms69 for the trade with 24k Arabia on YouTube
