Why don't more women have an interest in precious metals

As a general observation, as of course there are exceptions, i have noticed that women aren't interested in precious metals. i listen to a lot of youtube videos. There are plenty of videos made by women but very few make videos about precious metals. There are plenty of women join forums and despite not knowing who is actually behind many of the usernames on the silver forum i suspect the vast majority are men. i know of members who keep their precious metal collections a secret from their wives. On another thread a member laments how his wife has no interest in his collection and up to date no interest in learning about the true value of what he has amassed.

i wonder why this is.

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.

Traditionally, again with exceptions, it is women who own and wear jewellery.

I wear a watch and a ring as do most if not all of my male peers.

Is it the design of the piece that attracts, rather than the fact it is a precious metal?

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

I think it's the combo probably. My sister looks at me the same way with coins as she does when I talk about psychics, ghosts etc. But we got  her a mirrored sliver heart from@BackyardBullion and she absolutely loved it. Of course the personalisation meant a lot too, as well as that it was custom made for her (just as other pieces like wearable objects have other attractions like being perceived status symbols and sources of envy etc). But she loved the fact it was solid silver, and really interested in the hallmarks etc.

I would love more women to be involved in pm’s.  There is literally only a hand full of us in this forum.  This is probably because most women like spending money not saving it!!

Most of my mates think I’m weird for loving coins haha.  But I will be the 1 laughing when I have a 20000 pound collection and all they have is used shoes ?.

It’s the same for any financial/investment topic.

recent research suggests that men have put aside 3 times into their pension as women.. http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/pensions/article-4379326/Average-pension-pot-swells-72-50k-just-two-years.html

in fact, this may be a gross underestimation as I have seen previous studies that suggest the gap is much bigger still.

Men and women do have different social roles which can influence personal finances, but it is too much to suggest that it can explain this sort of difference. Rather, the truth is probably as simple as the man is still seen as the main provider and breadwinner and women tend to be looked after.

I read an article from the telegraph that claimed 75% of women when asked did not know what the bank of England interest rate currently was and couldn't explain what it did. It was as bad among men 60% couldn't work it out. I can't vouch for the poll but if representative of the UK population then such figures are pretty worrying to put it mildly. A nation of economic sheep.

This isn't far from the truth. Although my wife shows an interest in my PM, her Vivienne Westwood collection is currently worth about the same as my PM collection.

You forgot the £1,000-£5,000 handbags!!

To be honest, my Wife’s handbags, if sold 2nd hand would be worth the same / more than when she bought them. So she collects these with her money. She keeps the receipts and boxes and could flog them on eBay or at a Boutique at a moments notice.

Louis Vuitton, Prada and Chanel etc all increase prices by around 10% each year to try to keep them exclusive (even though the AAA Korean fakes are almost 100% accurate down to the materials and methods used in production).

Baby daughter might be getting one ready for her 21st! Sounds crazy but unlike shoes the bags do well.

Designer Handbags do ok as investments!

Most people don’t have 1 month of expenses in a savings account and expect the state pension to look after them.

There will be millions trying to get jobs in their 70’s in about 30 years time. Hopefully we can keep up with using the new technology.

This is an excellent point.

A life long £10 hr building site labourer or flag stone layer cant expect to work at full capacity past 50

However, continued learning through life, learning new web based skills & technologies, ability to write copy, learning SEO, web site design, coding, logo design, translation services,  eCommerce, web research virtual assisting, data science & analytics, writing web content, 3D modelling, consulting, skype conferencing, CAD or any other number of PC/web based skills.

These are all skills that you could do use for work.  You only need the ability to sit upright, start up a PC and mental faculties to use it before, up to and beyond retirement

If part of my retirement is a few eBay listings and walking down the post office to send off x10 parcels and x10oz of silver coins after my daily eBay sales so be it.

If i can get a £50 gig from Upwork, Freelancer or Fivvr for being sat at my PC for an hour or twos work at 70 - I'm still going to take it.

Facts are facts and numbers cant lie, the current situations of pensions cannot be sustained long term and those with expectation of this juicy pot of pension cash being there are sadly mistaken.  Expect the goal posts on pensions to be moved to fund the big invisible money tree, future governments will pick the fruit from

My mindset is fully prepared to be just working in some shape or form until i drop.  Having the core income of my savings but the skill set to still earn on my owns terms will empower you
