How to handle gold coins?

Guest

Is it safe to handle gold coins with your bare hands or do you still have to use cotton gloves as with silver?

Ah, and I have another question. Is this the right colour for sovereigns, or don't they look a bit too dark?

Coin colours can vary a lot due to toning (or not). Some coins are cleaned by dealers to blind you into buying!!

I just try to handle the edges. I always wash my hands with non soapy soap first just to wash off any grease.

Older coins seem to withstand far more handling but the cleaner and newer the coin the easier they mark.

Unless they are proofs or modern i handle with bare hands, like everyone else did when they were minted ;)

Non soapy soap, lol.  Isn't that the same as water? :)

Detergent maybe, or soap that hasn't been superfatted perhaps?
