How to handle gold coins?

Is it safe to handle gold coins with your bare hands or do you still have to use cotton gloves as with silver? 

Ah, and I have another question. Is this the right colour for sovereigns, or don't they look a bit too dark?

They are bullion so feel free to have a fumble

Coin colours can vary a lot due to toning (or not). Some coins are cleaned by dealers to blind you into buying!!

I just try to handle the edges. I always wash my hands with non soapy soap first just to wash off any grease.

Older coins seem to withstand far more handling but the cleaner and newer the coin the easier they mark.

Nothing to loose if you use cotton gloves.At least till you are sure that the coin is not rare .

Unless they are proofs or modern i handle with bare hands, like everyone else did when they were minted

Depends if you think they have any numismatic value or not and if finger prints bother you

Should be fine to use bare fingers around the rim though

I think many of us missed out an important point, doesn't matter what kind of gloves your are going to wear or bare hand ,

WASH YOUR HANDS FIRST !!!!!!!!!

Non soapy soap, lol.  Isn't that the same as water?

Detergent maybe, or soap that hasn't been superfatted perhaps?
