Released today just ordered mine as I love these coins. Looks like this is a first for the UK as they are usually Alderney coins.

Just wondered is there much of a demand for these coins and do other people go for these. Quite a high amount been made. 5000 for standard and 1500 for the Piedfort.

2.5% of the sales is donated to the Imperial War Museums. Which is something good for these coins being bought.

I don't think there is much interest in these type of coins tbh. I bought two when I first started out, one much more attractive and significant than this one (imho) and I've made a huge (paper) loss on both.

I really love one of them though, so who cares what others think, I'm very glad to have it :) I think that's what it boils down to - these types are neither investments or collector pieces, and you'll almost certainly lose your premium (happy to be corrected there), but if you like it and it gives you enjoyment for the money then why not (same as spending money/time on anything else that gives you joy that most won't appreciate)?

Just mho :)

It would be better putting the 2.5% in a poppy tin and holding the rest of your cash. The 2.5% will already be built into their price, meaning they will be selling it for 2.5% than they normally would

It doesn't look any more expensive than all the other same commemorative coins of the type to me. If any of the supposed 2.5% goes to 'charity' I would place a hefty bet that it'll mainly go to the top executives, and nothing meaningful to the people and families affected (and let's face it, it's so long ago now there can't be many left).

This coin represents two things to me - celebrating people dying for the Crown, and fields of poppies (see Afghanistan and the carnage there since our invasion reinstated the huge opium cultivation that the (CIA originating, funded and armed) Taliban had largely cracked down on).

Sorry to be a 'downer' (no pun intended) there, but if folk will raise these topics...

Anyway, you can ignore all that! It seems most so far don't seem to think it's a wise coin to buy, which I think was the original question :)
