Ooh my postie's just been too :D

Absolutely lovely bars @BackyardBullion!! Thank you for all the very hard work you and Mrs BYB put into these. Just looking at the stamping required for one bar really brings home how much effort went into these - you must be very proud of yourself for a job well done!

I also made good use of the database, and can say it's a fantasic idea. Bar number 123 has an interesting slight pitting, so I checked the database and lo and behold it's so clearly the same bar. It really emphasises the individuality of these pieces and their standing as hand-poured art bars.

Also I am over the moon to have been in the right place at the right time to bag number 3 as my third bar! :D

Thanks so much for all your kind words my friend, really glad you like the bars and it seems the little photo database is earning it's keep!

@BackyardBullion out of interest each of my bars seems to have a little 'scorch' mark on the back. Is that perhaps where the molten silver first hits the mould? Be interested to know!

Quite possibly that is what happened yes!

Well I'd love to know for sure if anyone can add anything!

It only adds to the charm for me, noticing them on all three. The first slight 'wrinkles' on the underside all seem to radiate to some extent from those points. The first two are in almost exactly the same spot 2/3 of the way up just to the right. The third is just before halfway to the left. So, I'm guessing that you stamped that one bar the other way up for aesthetic reasons (?).

All adds to the interest! I surely can't have the only three bars with these slight marks, the first and last being 120 (a total of 3 again, as per my post on the 'Today I received thread' - blimey) numbers apart!

Without seeing a photo of the bars its hard to tell.

But it is very common on poured silver to have a circular pattern on the bottom, this is where the silver first hit the mould and filled from there. The silver would have cooled momentarily when it hit the relatively cool mould (I preheat my molds to probably about 600 degrees but the silver is 1100 degrees so quite a big difference). Once the rest of the silver hits the mold that initial blob of cooled silver will re-melt but it leaves a pattern behind.

It won't have anything to do with the stamping though.

i have been looking at some of the vintage American bars on ebay. People should realise that the BYB bars will become collectors' items over time. The name will spread and the quality will be recognised. It is a no brainer. i secreted away 10 more BYB 1oz Silver Forum bars on top of the ones i got originally. Their day will come.

Always cast your vote - Spoil your ballot slip. Put 'Spoilt Ballot - I do not consent.' These votes are counted. If you do not do this you are consenting to the tyranny. None of them are fit for purpose.
A tyranny relies on propaganda and force. Once the propaganda fails all that's left is force.
