Star Wars Silver Proof Medal

Evening all,

I was wondering whether anyone had come across the recent Star Wars release, through Royal Mail?

I believe it to be an interesting option, as there are proof medal sets that are made by the Royal Mint, with very low mintage.  Details as to the weight and purity of the medals I cannot see on the product spec.

However, I believe there is the possibility of a great addition to any collection though. To me, they have a good combination of features required by collectors, leading to a possible quick gain in value.  They appear to combine Precious metals/popular theme/Proof quality and dare I say it there is the stamp aspect too. Could be sort after! The R2-D2 medal is nice in particular.

Btw I'm not usually a gimmick kind of person but I love the Beatrix Potter series and would like to gather forum opinions on the medals and also to the question...

What features/aspects/qualities does a release need to be popular?

All the best,

Jeffers

only The cover ( pnc ) limited to 750,  but royal mint normally will have silver proof on its own on top of the 750 pnc , so got to double check before purchase

secondly , royal mint milk spots on silver proof

Sovereigns are my next target. however I need to save a bit first which requires ignoring all these tempting silver items! finding it hard at the moment. would you have a recommendation about where to purchase sovs for a first timer?

Did any of the medals tempt you at all? Some lovely designs.

I've emailed the post office for confirmation as to the medal mintage, I'll post an update when I have it.

Ive had a problem with a recent silver proof from the royal mint  (See my tom kitten post), - how do you tell if marks are a small milk spot or dust/scratches?

sovereigns bought at local places at low premiums over

spot are usually preferred. (depending on the seller, this

might not be the best option for your first sovereign)

recognised forum members, hgm, atkinson, chards,

bairds are amongst my top picks for reliable places to

buy from.

I would do things the other way round. buy sovereigns

first to make up the staple of your holdings, then with

more buying/selling/market experience specialise into

more profitable areas making the most of your unique

abilities and expertise. getting a working strategy takes

time and commitment.
