Half sovereign premiums

Recommended Posts

Hi because of my budget right now i was thinking about buying half sovereigns, but looking at Atkinsons it is about £130 for a half sovereign and about £248 for a full sovereign. Was wondering would you be able to sell the half sovereigns with the premium or would you be better saving a bit longer to get the full sovereign. Because getting two halfs would cost more was wondering if youd get this back when time to sell? thanks

Have a look around other sites or if you have a local shop it's worth looking there. The last time I was in my local shop (the only one my way) the owner was selling 1/2's at £125 and full at £240. It seems to be a normal 'mark up'. Over all think "What can you get for a tenner?" 3 pints maybe?

If I was me I'd go for the half now, you have it in your hand and you never know what could happen with the price while you're saving up for the full.

Don't forget shipping is included in the coin price with Atkinson's. Allow about £7.50 for individual coins because they use Special Delivery and of course the packaging cost.
That brings the actual coin cost down to £122.50 and £241.50 respectively, so only about £3.50 differential cost.
Good luck with whatever you buy.

Some sellers will list half sovereigns at exactly half the full sovereign price so shop around.
Those including delivery will always appear more expensive because the cost of shipping one half is the same as a full using SD.
You should be able to pick up sovereigns and halves at spot +4% or less plus a delivery charge typically around £7 per package and not per coin.

Hatton garden metals usually list them for exactly half the price of a full sov.  They're cheaper than Atkinsons but you don't get to choose the year.

Have you tried a wanted add in the sales section? Maybe 1 of the members has 1 they want rid of.

I like half sovs.  They're a good looking coin with all the variety of the full sov just a bit smaller.  If your buying bullion I don't think it matters if you buy full or halfs.  Both pretty easy to sell when the time comes.
