Roy reacted to westminstrel in 2022 Sovereign design revealed?
Not trying to rub any salt into anyone’s wounds… but honestly… what does FIRST RELEASE have to do with anything?
All Proof coins, whether struck first or last, are meant to be the same quality; and there is no guarantee a “first release” (a very random contrivance by the grading companies!) is any different from a later release.
This is another reason I’m not into grading. Third party companies creating a business model for a need that they’ve fabricated - and cashing in at the expense of collectors. It makes no sense to me at all.
I can see a need for third party companies (i.e., besides the official Mints) to provide an authentication service for verifying coins as genuine, because fakes exist; but anything beyond that is a classic case of “creating a market”.

I happened to look at your original post again today, and a thought belatedly occurred to me:
If I had realised that when you said "Britannias", you meant tenth ounce ones, I should have asked you whether the "sovereigns" you were talking about were halves or quarters!*
* And hasn't somebody started making eighth sovereigns?
😎

I was looking for the thread that @Booky586 provided a link for!
Same problem for me, again with Aus halves. Too big for the capsule and measured over diameter. I did get mine checked at HGM and they were fine. Well, they were 4g of 22 carat gold at least!
1912S, I think.

The most profit I ever made with silver was with this. Sold for £500.
I was so happy 🔫

Although technically not a 1oz coin, 30.09g, the St. Gaudens has my vote too!

Britannias - any date

Double Eagles

The completer is a lovely coin but I think the idea is a coin series rather than 1 offs?
How about this for a rarely seen coin:
Dutch Lion Dollar
1 of 200.

Nice to see someone else who likes the royal coat of arms. I didn't take to the Krug at all, but I do love the Buffalo and Libertads. I'd add the Lunar series, my current favourite is the 2022 Perth mint year of the tiger, closely followed by the 2017 Rooster.
I'm surprised nobody has suggested the QB completer, unless I've missed a post.

Who knows what that bloke in the pub gifted to his daughter?
Who knows he had some sovereigns? - who knew? He was involved in a tragic boating accident - who knew?
The sovereigns were sold - no CGT - nothing to declare anyway. The sovereign is legal tender. It's £1.
It's gold - it's God's money - how dare these infidels think to demand a tribute.

About 5%?
I paid less than £1000 for it.
The problem is trying to price it, as discussed elsewhere. Difficult with so few (99!) peers with which to compare with.

I could do you a good deal? 😇
I might turn it in colloidal silver and piss it up the wall.

There are also 'psychological' factors at play here!
A lot of my silver was bought £11-13 oz. I sold most of it for about the same (£425 kilo?).

Tis ok, I've managed to shift most of it at cost....got about 40 ozs left now.
I don't want to spoil Marc's thread, but I really wish I hadn't bothered with it. My advice is to start/stick with gold.
Not a popular comment on a silver forum eh?

Roy got a reaction from flyingveepixie in Exit strategies?
My physical silver owes me around £100 an ounce, so any 'exit' strategy there would have to be discussed with a proctologist.
Fortunately, my vaulted holdings are in the black and even with vaulting charges I seem to be able to turn a silver shilling, so to speak.
All told, a poor investment decision and with the discovery of milk spots, the silver collector in me has passed on.

Problem being, spot will be sitting at £1259 😆
