Thank you @InvestInCoins888 for this wonderful Isle of Man Proof Sovereign set and also, for helping me out by not only the offer of a lower price, but also holding it until I got funds together to pay for it.
The little free gift sent with the set was a nice surprise 😄
Also, thanks to the Forum members who bought and are currently looking after the items I sacrificed from my collection to secure the set.  Hope you all enjoy your purchases, for now, I’ll be pestering you all in due course, for them back 😉
I very much appreciated the advice taken from a Forum member I have much respect of prior to making the purchase: ‘Rich,  the Reverse is a little bit Marmite’. But who could deny that the Machin Obverse is an enduring classic.
What I like about this particular set is its completeness- Sovereigns untouched and sealed in the presentation case, COA, original invoice for £388.50! and even the little waxed envelope the Jeweler supplied it in!
Anyway, enough waffle, here’s the lovely 46 year old set.

    Good morning,
Just to let everyone know that The Coin Cabinet auction 16 is up and while the focus is on collectable and semi-collectable gold coins, there is a great deal of bullion coins this time around to cater for the surging demand in these unprecedented times. Our auctions have a 0% buyer premium and bidding start at 90 % of gold bullion value so a cost-effective way to buy bullion. Here is a link to the auction taking place next Sunday 26th April, 3 PM.
We will also hold a webinar next Friday with gold market commentary joined by Tom Pelc our investment director, a macro-technical strategist with 30 years experience in banking and trading. Please contact us for more information and to receive the invitation link.
    Stay safe everyone!

The pre-decimal Elizabeth’s are very nice. I have a date run of those and a few more besides. Great choice.

Today I received my first ever Silver, with the purpose of  stacking. I have a few coins from Royal Mint in storage from before hand but mainly collector items like Beatrix Potter range and Olympic coins that I liked over the last few years.
Give me a thumbs up if you like as I'm new and have no community reputation 😇 #NoShame

Can’t stop looking at this stunning coin, the mirror finish on a proof sovereign is really beautiful specially when it’s a double sovereign.
    Thank you so much @evende

    Don't you start!
We have been having discussions about this for some time now.
My view is that it means exactly what it sounds like.
"Mint" would mean “in mint condition” (but don't forget that can be highly variable), so "minty" should logically mean something slightly different.
It implies a degree of approximation, which might vary depending on context, so a roll of Edward VII "minty" sovereigns might not be quite as good as a roll of George V or Elizabeth II.
As it happens, I think all our 1932 10 guilders would easily qualify for an MS grade on the Sheldon scale, rather than AU.
On that note, "MS" stands for "Mint State", and MS grades go from MS60 to MS70.
AU, standing for "Almost Uncirculated", goes from AU50 to AU59.
My colleague, Ian, thinks "minty" is too inexact to use, but I disagree, and consider that its very inexactitude makes it a perfect word, and very concise.
A few years ago, a well-known Yorkshire dealer offered me some "minty" sovereigns, and I believe that the two of us had a perfect understanding of what that meant, which is great communication.
Having cited one anecdote, more years ago, a well-respected Italian dealer offered us a quantity of older sovereigns which he described as "F.D.C.", when they arrived, they ranged from good VF to about EF, but certainly not F.D.C., which has a very exact meaning, so this was poor communication from him. (We still trade together).
To replace the word "minty", we would have to say something like "quite close to mint condition, give or take, and allowing for age, etc."
BTW, the Royal Mint have registered "Minty" as a trade mark, but they have no objection to us using the word when describing coins.

    Hello all,
We will host a LIVE webinar tomorrow evening at 8pm UK time, covering topics such as
    - Reasons behind gold price fluctuations during COVID-19 crisis.
    - How investment into gold coins can help your financial situation
    - Semi-collectable gold coins as a cost-saving option to bullion
I thought this could be of interest to some of you.
Tom Pelc, our investment director with over 30 years experience in banking, a leading figure on macro-technical strategy, will co-host and share his professional analysis on what has been going on in the gold market lately. This will not be the standard information you read in the newspaper.

hhmmmm the plot thickens - so as i left the my office half hour or so to make a spot of lunch and calm my raging anger and red mists
I return to see the marks that were there, suddenly are not !!! 🙄😲  I remember feeling how cold the outer box/case was when opening it
It looks like it must have been some sort of water vapour/moisture that was present or something. That must have evaporated at room temperature
I have gave the coin capsule a clean to remove all finger prints
Aside from a tiny little surface dust, which some compressed air should shift away, the coin appears OK unless my eyes are playing tricks on me ?
Would you be happy to keep this ?
What do you guys think?  return to Royal Mint or keep ?
