Any day you receive a new Vicky shield is a good day. ?

It is an interesting one.  The depiction of Victoria on the Gothic Crown is for me the most attractive part of the coin.  Replacing this image would for me make the coin less attractive.

We practiced taking photos and scans many ways over the years, but have found a camera phone, and the S7 is not the latest phone and has nothing special. If you take the photo in the right light and get the coin in focus the amount of pixels available should let you cut the coin out quite adequately. 
I suggest give it a practice and see what you can get, I am all about getting the job done and showing you don't need thousands of pounds or dollars worth of equipment.

Quite rare, Newfoundland / Maritime Provinces 1880 Gold $2. mintage (reported) of only 2,500.
Again, not part of a set collection I'm building, I just liked the coin and the portrait. If anyone is a collector of Canadian coins id appreciate any further info. Minted in London I understand.
 

After paying off my mortgage today, I went into town to my local bullion dealer and treated myself to an 1880 'Mortgage mintmark' sovereign. Well, that's what I'm thinking the 'M' stands for.

Something different and has  probably took the place of my favourite coin in my collection in a beautiful high grade for a coin which is 1400 years old

I had a bit of a shock/surprise on Saturday as I had two letters from my endowment provider who firstly said that I've an amber alert with a significant risk of a shortfall. The other letter was to show me the amount that I would get if I cashed out the week before. Well this amount would clear my mortgage 3 years early!
I rang the provider who confirmed the amount and they will send me forms to fill out. Then I rang the mortgage provider who said there are no early payment penalties and will send me a statement to show the final amount I owe. I've only ever had an interest only mortgage that only just over two years ago, done a part repayment towards it. Now I've been buying precious metals and putting money into premium bonds in case of a massive shortfall but now I don't have to touch them.
I'll be relieved when the paperwork is finally done and no more payments to make. There was no point in carrying on until the end to get maximum out of the policy as what I pay in interest is what I would have paid anyway. The savings I would make could then go onto topping up my pension payments at work.
One large weight off my shoulders.

A nice 1870 shield sovereign arrived today, a belated birthday present from me to me.
Well that’s my excuse anyway....
I’m struggling to see the die number, 83, 86 or 53? Who knows.

1853 Shield Sovereign
Arrived today and whilst not the highest grade I like the uniqueness of these earlier sovereigns, each one a little different.
1853 was a year renowned for mint errors.

It’s 86, I’ve managed to get a better photo.

I had erroneously recorded this die number twice in my database, I had a separate entry for it as a variety that has been discovered before and thought I didn't have any.
On second look I noticed that in fact I had 5!
I had another look at them this morning and note that one is very very copper coloured. It is suspected that there was a few experimental strikes with different alloys, with the "yellow gold" suspected to be with silver instead of copper.
Is it possible they also tried something else, or would the silver content potentially tone like this? I really tried to capture the difference in photos but in hand it's ridiculously different.

But in the last week you probably coveredyour premium to buy and cost to sell, not often you getthat covered in a week..normally takes months if not years to be in true profit.

No regrets selling the bars at all, you cant time the markets.
I set myself targets and goals and stick to the plan, served me well to date enabling me to pay off my current house early and buy my next one for cash.  Still made 40% on what I sold and  have around 100oz gold left + a few thousand ozs of silver
 
Also the current short period of stamp duty/LTT holiday offsets some of the differential in the mid and longer term.

Got sick of watching gold go up and up. So just ordered 20 sovs to add to the rest.
 
Thought I should mention it so you can all prepare for the huge dip coming.
