In fairness I doubt it was the bullion dealer who did it, probably a pawn shop or suchlike. Then they sold it as gold weight to the dealer.
Dealer is still a plonker for trying to pass it on to a customer though.

Some coins can be heavily plated, so would fail an acid test. So sometimes a moron drills into the coin (usually on thicker bars) then acid tests the filings.

Yeah once In hand you will understand it, layered/high relief and incuse lettering.

I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. İt looks how I imagine gold rush coins would look, if they had the technology of today

Stunning coin and glad you got sorted.
Still my favourite bullion coin, something nostalgic about them.

lol, I did wonder if it was a literal translation... what an odd thing to do to a coin, surely if you're going to be buying enough to be bothered with acid testing you'd cough up for some tech to help the testing process.

Hi all,
I would like to share my experience with BullionByPost as they were the last to try.I haven't had much luck in the past trying to get the best condition for the coins I want to be in top condition.
I sent them an email first, asking about the condition of their 2022 gold buffalo.I told them that I had bad experience with other online bullion dealers, that coins which were described as mint state were drilled, acid tested...
They said there can be marks occasionally in the Buffalo coins ,but they certainly wouldn't sell a coin that had been drilled or acid tested.
I have tried to find a buffalo here on thesilverforum to buy but I got only one offer for a Buffalo that was badly scratched and at same price BullionByPost had on stock.
Thinking that I can't get a worse condition than the one offered on thesilverforum I went ahead and placed an order for a 2022 mint state gold Buffalo from BullionByPost.
To my surprise, the coin arrived in a perfect fit capsule and couldn't believe that I finally got a top condition gold Buffalo.I'm not an expert but seems to be an MS69.
I'm very happy with the condition of the gold buffalo and that finally, with the pre 1942 gold indians, the family is reunited.
Thank you very much BullionByPost.
