A while ago I put up a topic or post about a possible server move and the reasons for this. In short we are moving away from self managed severs to cloud hosting, this is expected to be our last and final move, and will provide several benefits to the community including more forum features.

We hope to schedule this for sometime towards the beginning of September but will give at least 1 weeks notice when we know a move date. There will be some downtime during one day however this will be minimised as much as possible, and we will aim for the actual switch over to be as seamless as possible and to go LIVE as soon as possible with the bulk of the images and data being uploaded in the background whilst the new server is live.

Fyi.. I have previously purchased from different professional forum members before e.g theman73 with no issues. I naively decided to become a “silver member” a few days ago based on positive and professional interactions with other TSF members. This is the first time I have used the “Silver Member” privilege to do a deal early. As the arse fell out of this deal, I found this strong meat to swallow, and it left me somewhat confused. I can only profusely apologise to all TSF members who have tried to correct my error regards the purchasing process.

This has been a contentious issue one which I can see both sides.
It has been debated before and the seller has no option but to go by the time stamp to keep things fair to all.
I have also been unfortunate not to get items both by reply by pm only to be beaten to it and reply in listing only to be beaten by pm, whilst it is frustrating it is a factor of using the forum one that we all accept.
@RDHC is a highly respected member of the highest integrity and has to be applauded for offering great items at great prices and had no option other than to take the 1st bid in whether by pm or public listing.
@bintarong I fully understand your frustration but unfortunately unless stated in the listing we all have to accept that we can be beaten by either pm or public offer of intention. In this case it is an unfortunate case of timing not intended with any malice.
There will be other great deals there always is on the forum and I look forward to trying to beat all members to them 😄 🤣 

From a personal perspective (I am much more of a buyer than a seller here), I agree that it would be 'nice' if sales threads were conducted entirely openly.  There have been countless occasions that I have offered to buy an item only to be told that it has already been sold.  It is very frustrating.
However, two points here as to why life isn't like that:
The seller is entirely within their rights to conduct their sale however they see fit, within the rules of the forum, and that includes selling items on private messages, other platforms, or to whoever else they want to.  They do not need to stick to any timing rules, social niceties or any other conventions that you may wish, although the vast majority do. Some people do prefer to buy things anonymously.  A 1oz gold coin may be a trivial amount to some, but to others it is a large chunk of their disposable income, and to even more it is entirely beyond their means.  And there are numerous other reasons someone may wish to make a purchase on here without informing everyone else. I am very sorry if this is frustrating, and on this occasion has lead to you missing out on a bargain, but this is how the forum works.
To @bintarong, and anyone else on the forum, please be respectful.  If you have a genuine grievance, or simply don't understand something, your first action should be to PM the seller.  If that is not satisfactory, then I suggest contacting one of the moderators or any longstanding member you trust.  Openly accusing someone of underhand behaviour, especially without firm evidence, is not going to lead to a positive outcome for you.

And you are absolutely right about the email alert, which was what I picked up first (because I always go to my emails if I have been absent from home, as I was for one or two hours this afternoon, and then I went my other favoured web sites, including of course TSF, but I also check very frequently one or two newspaper sites to which I subscribe for important world or national news. I imagine that this is a fairly normal procedure or set of priorities for many members of TSF, who have an intelligent interest in many matters as well as this forum.
Moreover, the member who sent me a PM was, in point of time, ahead of the aggrieved member who responded to my listing on TSF, irrespective of my happening to look in on the forum after checking my emails.
I well recall that I lost out on a desirable shield sovereign in a Coins of the Realm auction about two years ago when my bid registered apparently successfully, only for it to transpire that someone else had pipped me by a nano second with exactly the same bid of £xxx, so I lost, and queried it, but I still lost. That's the electronic age for you.

Hi as you're new I will try and explain the workings of the forum. You know you have purchased when seller either responds on the sales thread to say it's yours, or sends a private message with payment instructions. Buyer's can either comment on the sales thread or by private message ( their own preference) to show interest,the seller will respond based on timestamps. unfortunately on this occasion the actual buyer piped you to the post by pm-ing first, before your comment. 
To suggest otherwise, or imply the seller was backing out due to spot price is both harsh and incorrect, they have a successful trade history and have nothing to gain by choosing one member over another. I appreciate you missed out on a bargain, but I can assure you more will pop up regularly. 
Best piece of advice I can give is to take your time.... look around and see how the forum actually works before jumping in with size 13s on. It's a very successful place that's built on trust and integrity, the last thing you want to do is create a negative view of yourself before your journey even begins. If unsure of anything or ever need direction/ advice, just ask and I will try my best to answer or point you in the direction of someone in the know.

By now after so many discussions the moral of the story should be well understood :
"don't use ebay for anything other than cheap tat like sellotape or drawing pins" 
I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would buy or sell pms on there : although I hold my hand up to doing it myself in the past, but that was before I was fully switched onto what goes on on ebay.  It's just not worth it.
