    Today I Received

Received a killer deal on Black Friday with my 10x eBay bucks... I essential paid $55 off the normal price for the 2017 Gold Sovereign. Now the prices are even higher despite a spot price drop.

@BackyardBullion and @Roy it is what it is, surely? If you want to do a charitable drive then that's great, but it's a bit late now on this particular idea, no? I'm a full time carer for a disabled parent so I come here for something else, I save the taxpayers very many thousands in the care I provide my parent, because I am a caring person and I know no-one can look after him like I can. So it feels 'a bit' of a slap in the face (I know, not intended) to try to enjoy a bit of fun and some excitement that takes me away from that, and now I am told it must be charitable. If you feel so strongly about charity then I would both tell you that it starts at home (imvho) and also bring up the old phrase 'a dog is for life, not just for Christmas'.

    Periodic table rounds

This was fun browsing. The table of elements in coin form. Partly done by others before but never with an eye on completing, naturally! Caps duly doffed to these guys though, who are doggedly going for it, and keep going back to it. Began in 2006, hit a wall for the last few years but as technology allows they are trying to forge ahead. http://www.elementsales.com/ecoins.htm

I've edited my post but it doesn't really matter at this point I guess. You're making suggestions, but don't you think it's a bit late for you and @Roy to start thinking about changing the total premise when so many folk have signed up under the original basic idea? Yes it's wonderful to highlight folk who need help, but why only at this time of year (that's rhetorical - just meant to provoke self-reflection, perhaps)? It feels like a hijack when there are so many other things you could do quietly every day of the year to help other folk in more direct ways, it's a very naive way of looking at society imvho. I find that 'pat on the back' very condescending, as is the 'less fortunate' bit. I don't want to read any more of this nonsense, I'm out (sorry everyone else for bringing down the thread).

    1/4oz or 1oz coins?

I actually bought a 1oz coin because I wanted to see what they look and feel like, the answer is when I look at it I think "I could have bought 4 sovereigns for that."

Call me selfish but I don't really want to be getting confused with the charity raffle thing. I enjoyed donating last year because I knew that my donation would go to a like minded individual and would be enjoyed regardless of it's financial value (one oz ag and two cherished copper rounds). It wasn't about money or charity. It was about giving a gift to a random person who would almost certainly be very pleased to receive it. It was a nice little thing between people that mostly have a similar interest in coins and pm's regardless of how wealthy they are or are not. Just my opinion for what it's worth

UK 50% Junk Silver Liquidity / Snobbery

I've just put several kilos of 50% into a treasure chest, all on their sides so it's one long roll. The last 2 coins suffer some wear from me wedging it in to make a snug fit, but it's oddly satisfying to have rows of half crowns, florins, shillings and sixpence which don't rattle around. I scattered the top with a few loose versions of each coin design so it feels more treasure-like to look in on, lol. I almost can't lift my 50% box now, so that tells me it's time to move onto desperately trying to get more Sterling coins under spot. It can be done, but in slim pickings or a lucky bulk deal from a repeat seller you've bought from a few times. I love the older 50% designs. Much more ornate and gothic, I feel.

Definitely some silver snobbery in there. Of all the silver that doesn't sell on here, .500 scrap coinage seems to have the hardest time shifting - it can sit for a day or so, even under spot price. Storage is clearly a consideration though.

    Stolen goods - please read

Sorry to hear this. Seems this safe is just a fire safe, not a burglar rated safe. For example, Gardall makes B rating safes of various sizes (here in US, not sure about availability in UK or elsewhere). Amsec is another well know safe company here. A lot more money for these Burglar rated safes of course. Best of luck finding your items.

Just a thought but if a daily draw is decided upon we'll need two draws for the last day so someone's not already 'out', won't we? Unless they have the chance to win their own donation back, not very exciting but saves on postage I guess Ooh I'll hope for this one - I know a little lad who'd absolutely love one of these for Christmas! Great stuff, the more the merrier!

Think I will give this a miss, I was really interested until I found it will be £1700+ shipped to the UK. If it was £1400-£1500 I would have gone for it.

    1/4oz or 1oz coins?

I started off buying 1 oz gold coins then switched to the Mighty Sovereign...not only are they easy to liquidate, its the sheer variety/history and beauty of these coins that make them irresistible.
